The Taco TWOsday birthday party for our littlest guy turned out just perfectly!
Since we had our first baby, we put very little focus on the first birthday party. We always felt like it was a little bit overwhelming for the birthday baby [now, this has certainly changed since our fourth baby is CONSTANTLY amidst chaos…but I digress]. The second birthday was always our big focus with a fun, themed party! [The other kiddos had a Mr. Potato Head Party, a Camp Kaden Camping Party, and an Ice Cream Party…they were all so fun!]
The Taco TWOsday party did not disappoint! I am excited to share all the details!
Taco TWOsday! How cute are these stick-on mustaches and this tiny sombrero! We had his “dos” shirt personally made by Laingville Creations.
We got all of our decorations from a variety of locations, some local and some online. However, Amazon has most of the same items if you want to make it as easy on yourself as possible. [All of the sources are here: Party Pack with tablecloth, plates, napkins, and banner, pinata, banner, gold letter balloons, and serape garland.]
We created a complete Taco Bar! It had ground chicken taco meat and chipped beef taco meat as well as refried beans for our vegetarian friends. You could definitely use a packaged taco seasoning, but we used the recipe at Healthy Beat Skinny to season our meat to keep it healthy. I am so glad we did, because it was delicious!
We had mini tortillas and hard taco shells as well as greens for taco salad. To top the tacos, we put out tomatoes, cheese, onions, fresh jalapenos, jarred jalapenos, salsa, guacamole, sour cream, and shredded lettuce.
As appetizers, we made corn dip [the recipe we found called it crack dip…apparently it was supposed to be delicious and it sure was!], chips with guacamole, chips with salsa and pico de gallo, and Texas style queso [Velveeta and Rotel, that’s all!].
Churro cupcakes and Taco Cookies!
The recipe for churro cupcakes is AMAZING! It is not ours but linked here because you DEFINITELY want to make these! Like this week! They are completely from scratch and so worth the extra effort!
For the cookies, again we went easy peasy. I purchased ready-made, store-bought sugar cookie dough and added about 1/4 cup of flour to it. I then rolled out the dough and used a circle cookie cutter to make circles. I cut those in half and put the half circles on my cookie sheet.
After the taco shapes were baked and cooled, I used ready-made icing in brown, red and green to make them look like tacos. Like I said, easy peasy!
We had five activities for the kiddos between eating and cupcakes and presents.
We founds some cute printable coloring pages online and printed those out with a few sets of crayons. Easy and the little ones love this!
This game is played like freeze dance. We played mariachi music and told the kids to jump or dance around! When the music stops, you FREEZE! Not only did all the kids get into this, Kellen LOVED it. He thought it was his own personal dance party!
We purchased these plain colored maracas and little bags with a cactus on the front. The kids got to pick their own colored Sharpie [definitely supervise this activity] to decorate their maraca. The big kids had fun thinking about a fun design for theirs like this little cactus drawing in the photo.
Sadly we didn’t get any photos of this activity but the kids had fun trying to trick each other to put the tail in the wrong place.
Last was the pinata! Kellen LOVED it! But when the candy war began, there were some tears. Not my favorite of all kids party activities, but it felt sort of requisite for a Taco TWOsday party.
Each kiddo got to take home their decorated maracas as well as an inflatable toy [choices were a pinata, cactus, lizard, or chile pepper]. Each toy had a little tag that said, “Taco ‘Bout a Fun Party!”
And that’s a wrap! What did you think? Have you thrown a Taco TWOsday party? Here are a few more cute photos before we go!
